The Semela Foundation is a non-profit organization that uplifts early learning centers caring for children from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing the children in their care with the knowledge, nourishment, and nurturing they need to thrive at school and beyond.

Project Description

Project Goals:

  • Create a new website for Semela that is visually appealing, informative, and easy to use.
  • Ensure that the website is accessible to all users.
  • Promote Semela's mission and work to a wider audience.
  • Allow users to donate to early childhood development centres through the website.

The website includes the following features:

  • A clear and concise overview of Semela's mission and work
  • Information about Semela's programs and services
  • A contact form where visitors can get in touch with Semela
  • The website is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
  • A donation page where visitors can support Semela's mission

Project Impact:

  • The new Semela website is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to learn more about Semela's mission and work, or who wants to support Semela's mission.
  • The project has helped to increase awareness of Semela and its work, and has helped to generate new donations for ECD centres in South Africa.

Alignment with Semela's mission

Semela's mission is to help uplift early learning centres caring for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The new Semela website helps to achieve this mission by:

  • Raising awareness of Semela's work and the importance of early childhood development.
  • Making it easy for people to support Semela's mission by donating online.
  • Providing information and resources to early learning centres in the Western Cape of South Africa.

Key insight:

Early childhood development (“ECD”) refers to the physical, psychological, cognitive and social development that a child experiences between birth and school-going age. Semela focusses efforts on ECD as for many children in South Africa, the experiences that they have in their first five years of life place them at a significant disadvantage at the point of entry into school.
